Here is the detailed TCS NQT Registration Process. The application process for TCS Campus Hiring comprises of the below mandatory steps:

  • STEP 1: The first step is to register yourself for the entrance/aptitude test on the National Qualifier Test (NQT) website

Select “Subject Test” option in the NQT registration form which includes “Programming Test” to ensure your candidature is considered for TCS Campus Hiring YoP 2021.

  • STEP 2: Navigate to TCS Next Step Portal

Points to note:
  • If you do not have CT/DT reference ID, please click on “Register Now”, choose “IT” and proceed as appropriate.
  • If you already have a CT/DT reference ID then please click on Login and proceed to fill/submit the application form. Upon submission you would be prompted to the “Apply For Drive” screen.
  • Update your NQT Registration Number obtained in Step 1 and click on Apply.
  • To confirm your application status for TCS Campus Hiring – Navigate to the ‘Track Your Application’ tab on the Next Step Portal, the status displayed should be “Applied for drive”
  • If you are a 2021 YOP (BE/B.Tech/ME/M.Tech/M.Sc/MCA) and if you have submitted the application form, click on “Apply for drive”, update your NQT registration number in the Text box provided and click on “Apply”.
  • If your status is registered please:
  1. Fill/submit the application form and click on “Apply for drive”
  2. Update your NQT registration number in the Text box provided
  3. Click on “Apply”.
  • To confirm your application status for TCS Campus Hiring – Navigate to the ‘Track Your Application’ tab on the Next Step Portal, the status displayed should be “Applied for drive”

TCS NQT 2021 Eligibility Criteria

Here is the eligibility criteria for 2021 pass-outs to be eligible for the TCS NQT 2021 or TCS Campus Hiring YoP 2021.


  • BE/B.Tech/ME/M.Tech/M.Sc/MCA 2021 pass-outs from any stream


  • An applicant must have minimum 60% or 6 CGPA throughout academics and an aggregate of 60% or 6.00 CGPA in the highest qualification till the semester for which results have been declared.


  • The applicant must not have more than 1 active backlog/arrear/ATKT while appearing for the TCS Selection process.
  • If selected, the student while joining TCS must have cleared all pending backlogs/arrears/ATKT within the course duration as stipulated by the University failing which joining will not be permitted.


  • It is mandatory to declare academic gaps. Overall break should not exceed 24 months. Any exceptions are permissible only for valid reasons subject to satisfactory check of relevant document(s) at the time of test/interview/onboarding


  • An applicant should be between 18 to 28 years of age to participate in the TCS Campus Hiring process.


  • Only full-time courses will be considered (part-time / correspondence courses will not be considered).
  • Applicants with Secondary and / or Senior Secondary course from NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) are eligible to apply, if the other courses are full time.


  • Applicants with extended education in the highest qualification are not eligible. Any exceptions are permissible only for valid reasons subject to satisfactory check of relevant document(s) at the time of test/interview/onboarding.

TCS NQT for 2021 Pass-Outs | Recruitment Pattern

The TCS NQT 2021 Pass-Outs Recruitment Process is expected to have the following rounds.

  • Online Test (National Qualifier Test or NQT)
  • Technical Interview
  • Managerial/ HR Interview

TCS NQT Syllabus for 2021 Pass-Outs

The TCS NQT (National Qualifier Test or Ninja) is confirmed to happen on 24, 25 and 26 Oct, 2020.

With the pattern changing, here is the syllabus of the TCS NQT for this year.

1) Verbal Ability

This section is going to test 24 questions in 30 minutes. The question that are expected in this Verbal Ability section are:

  • Reading Comprehension
  • Sentence Correction or Error-Spotting (Covering topics such as Subject Verb Agreement, Pronoun Agreement, Parallelism, Prepositions, Articles, Tenses, Modifiers etc.)
  • Sentence Completion
  • Para-Jumbles
  • Cloze Passage
  • Vocabulary
  • Phrasal Verbs and Idioms
  • Voices and Forms of Speech

2) Reasoning Ability

This is a brand new section, which will have 30 questions to be solved in 50 minutes. The questions are expected from:

  • Data Arrangements (Linear, Circular and Multi-dimensional)
  • Blood Relations
  • Coding, Decoding, Series and Visual Reasoning
  • Data Interpretation
  • Data Sufficiency
  • Clocks, Calendars
  • Cubes and Direction Sense

3) Numerical Ability

The Numerical Ability section will have 26 questions to be solved in 40 minutes. The questions are expected from:

  • Geometry, Mensuration and Progressions
  • Ratios and Proportions
  • Functions, Logarithms and Graphs
  • Clocks, Direction Sense

4) Programming Logic

This section will consist of 10 questions which you have to solve in 15 minutes.

Last year, this section had questions from Fundamentals of Programming in C, C++ and Java on the following topics.

  • Operators
  • Looping statements
  • Control statements
  • Arrays
  • Strings
  • Functions

There were also questions on:

  • Object Oriented Programming (OOPS)
  • Standard Template Libraries (STL)
  • Object Modeling
  • Compiler Design
  • Threading
  • Data Structures: Linked List, Stack, Queue, Trees and Graphs
  • Recursion

For this year, do also prepare on:

  • Pseudocode
  • Algorithms
  • Basic Software Development Cycle

60% of MCQs in TCS last year were from C++.

5) Coding

The Coding section will consist of 2 questions to be solved in 45 minutes. The questions are expected to be of easy to medium difficulty level.

The exact construct of this section will be:

  • 1 Question for 15 minutes
  • 1 Question for 30 minutes

The languages allowed will be C/ C++/ Java/ Python 2.7/ PERL.

You are expected to master Fundamentals of Programming in any 1 language of your choice to be able to crack this Coding Section.

TCS NQT Exam and Syllabus related FAQs

1) Is there negative marking in TCS NQT Ninja?

As of last year, yes. Negative marking was applicable for all the MCQ questions in TCS NQT exam, whereas questions based on Fill in blanks are excluded from negative marking. When the official sample paper is released on 30th Sep, 2020, the official stand for this year will be divulged.

2) What is the duration of TCS NQT Exam?

It’s a 180 minute test with 92 questions.

4) What all languages are available for coding section in TCS NQT?

You can code in C/C++/Java/Perl/Python 2.7 programming languages.

5) Is Command Line Programming needed for TCS NQT?

You can expect questions on both standard input/ output as well as Command Line Arguments.
